Optimizing in the workspace

Fireworks optimization controls are conveniently located on panels in the workspace:

The Optimize panel contains the key controls for optimizing images in Fireworks.
The Color Table panel displays the colors in the current color palette.
The Preview window shows you a preview of how the exported graphic will look.

Note: In Fireworks, all the optimization controls are in the workspace. However, you can still optimize the image with the Export Preview dialog box by choosing File > Export Preview. For more information on the Export Preview, see Optimizing and previewing during export.

You can choose from common optimization settings to quickly set a file format and apply several format-specific settings. You can adjust preset settings.

If you need more precise optimization control than the presets offer, you can create custom optimization settings using the Optimize panel.

To choose a preset optimization:

Choose it from the Optimize panel Settings pop-up menu.

To specify optimization settings for an image:

1 In the Optimize panel, choose a file format.
For more information, see Selecting the appropriate file format.
2 Set format-specific options.
For more information, see Choosing optimization settings for GIFs and PNGs and Choosing optimization settings for JPEGs.
3 Choose other optimization settings from the Optimize panel's Options pop-up menu, if necessary.
